Despite the fact that this fourth installment didn’t exactly get rave reviews and we didn’t exactly get a proper send-off for The Next Generation crew with a planned fifth film being scrapped afterwards; many “Trekkies” such as myself still consider an interesting entry in the franchise as the whole idea of meeting a younger clone of yourself is both shocking and unnerving at the same time; so with all that being said lets take a look at the “final” installment that at least ties up some loose ends with all these characters!
Capt. Jean-Luc Picard diverts the starship Enterprise from its scheduled trip to Cmdr. Riker and Counselor Troi’s wedding to negotiate a peace treaty with the Romulans. Picard is shocked when Shinzon, the new Praetor of the Romulans, admits to being a clone of him. When the crew members discover a break-in on their computer, they are forced into a life-or-death battle to stop Shinzon’s Warbird before it can destroy the Earth. The film stars Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Tom Hardy and Ron Perlman.
Overall I think the movie is another disjointed mess of a Star Trek installment that may not have send this USS Enterprise crew on the high note we were hoping for, it at least made for an intriguing premise of Picard meeting a younger clone of himself played by a pre-fame Tom Hardy and tied up some loose ends such as Rinker and Troi marrying!
