“The’re Creepy and Cooky, Mysterious And Spookey, Their Animated Outing is a First y, The Addams Family!” Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family — Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Grandma — are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams’ eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighborhood. The film features the voices of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler, and Allison Janney. Oscar Isaac is fine as Gomez, Charlize Theron is good as Morticia, Chloë Grace Moretz steals the show as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard has a lot of charisma has Pugsley and Nick Kroll is wacky as Uncle Fester. All the black comedy feels kind of inconsistent this time around and sometimes I wonder who the demographic of this movie is even for. But still the most interesting part of the movie is Wednesday going to School for the first time. I understand that this is what the titular family looked like in the original comic strips, but even still I think the computer animation should have been a lot more polished. Overall I think this animated adaptation of the titular family could have had a lot of promise, but fell flat on all macabre fronts, but here’s hoping that the sequel can fix that (sort of similarity with the two live-action films)!
