The movie is basically a better version of the movie “Guess Who”, which shows us a more layered version of the lives of an interracial couple with much of a greater impact! Career-minded Kenya McQueen is set up on a blind date with architect Brian Kelly , but backs out when she realizes that he is white. Impressed with his work on a friend’s mansion, McQueen hires Kelly to design her new garden — and he sweeps her off her feet. But, after her friends introduce her to executive Mark Harper, McQueen must choose between the type of man she always dreamed she wanted and giving in to life’s little surprises. The movie does a great job in showing us interracial relationships and traditional African American family values and social customs. And Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker have excellent chemistry together which started off as a professional then led to well “Something New”. Overall the idea of blind dates have been done a lot in movies, but this is one that definitely speaks to me the most!
