And here we have another Disney Live-Action Remake sequel that seriously didn’t need to exist, but does, so lets just get this over with shall we, if you think this sequel will live up to its title, guess again! Maleficent travels to a grand old castle to celebrate young Aurora’s upcoming wedding to Prince Phillip. While there, she meets Aurora’s future mother-in-law — a conniving queen who hatches a devious plot to destroy the land’s fairies. Hoping to stop her, Maleficent joins forces with a seasoned warrior and a group of outcasts to battle the queen and her powerful army. The film stars Angelina Jolie returning to portray the title role. Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville also return to their previous roles, with Harris Dickinson replacing Brenton Thwaites from the first film and Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and Michelle Pfeiffer joining the cast as new characters. I hate the movie for its muddled plot and overly artificial visuals, I enjoyed the movie for the performances of Jolie, Fanning and Pfeiffer (who’s the actual villain in this movie). If you think the movie was going to make the titular character into the Disney Villain we all love to hate; well prepare to be greatly disappointed. Just like “Alice Through the Looking Glass” this is nothing more than a cash grab with a title that’s made to lure people in. Plus the movie movie has too much of that it didn’t need to exist quality to it. Considering Brenton Thwaites is too busy with “Titans” playing Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing, Prince Philip is replaced with Harris Dickinson who is completely wooden and bland. Overall this sequel is a mess, but an enjoyable one. A worthy enough recommendation for Live-Action Disney Movie fans!
