FW TV PICK: STAR WARS: CLONE WARS

Grey Griffin and Mat Lucas in Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003)

While us Star Wars fans were waiting patiently for the release of “Revenge of the Sith” we were treated to this Cartoon Network Micro-Series to pass the time which fills in the gaps between “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith” since they start the war in one episode and end it in the other, but we see it in this show! Clone Wars is part of the Star Wars prequel storyline, surrounding the fall of esteemed Jedi Anakin Skywalker and his subsequent transformation into the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series begins shortly after Attack of the Clones, as the failing Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are under siege from the Separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Sith. As the war rages, more and more planets slip from Republic control. The first and second seasons consisted of 10 episodes, lasting three minutes each; these were molded after “Attack of the Clones” and are meant to be episodic. The third and final season consisted of five episodes, lasting 12 minutes each; these were molded after “Revenge of the Sith” and are meant to feel more like mini-movies. While I am yet to check out Genndy Tartakovsky’s other popular works he created or animated such as Tiny Toon Adventures, Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, The PowerPuff Girls and Batman: The Animated Series; I’m very familiar with his stylized animation which fits perfectly in the world of Star Wars. It pretty much makes every Blaster Battle or Lightsaber Duel all the more entertaining to watch, plus we get much better depth and writing for our main characters. Basically the micro-series exceeds where the movies fail, but sadly this show is no longer canon due to it being replaced with a far superior show!
