FW TV PICK: STAR WARS: DROIDS

Star Wars: Droids (1985)

Its no secret that the droid duo R2-D2 and C-3PO are considered to be the most beloved characters in the whole Star Wars Universe as they have appeared in nearly every film, TV series and video games; so its no surprise that at one point they got their own animated series in the 80’s which was sadly short-lived! Droids follows the adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO as they face off against gangsters, criminals, pirates, bounty hunters Boba Fett and IG-88, the Galactic Empire and other threats. During their adventures, the droids find themselves in the service of successive new masters and in difficult situations as a result. The series was retroactively placed four years after Revenge of the Sith and fifteen years before the events of A New Hope. Over the course of the series, the droids team up with four different sets of masters. R2-D2 and C-3PO are just as lovable as ever and the fact that Anthony Daniels is practically the main character of this series makes it all the more special. The series falls into three cycles or arcs; the droids usually run into their new masters at the beginning of each, and at the end are forced to leave. The Great Heep, a television special following the series, serves as a prequel to the final arc. Overall my opinion varies on each of the Masters; Jord Dusat and Thall Joben alongside female lead Kea Moll were memorable (The Battle Against Sise Fromm); Jann Tosh, Mon Julpa and Sollag, alongside female lead Jessica Meade are decent (The Pirates and the Prince); and Mungo Baobab was forgettable (Unchartered Space). The animated series is pretty dated by today’s standards and follows the 80’s cartoon formula, but for what its worth all Star Wars Fans should check it out!
