FW MOVIE PICK: HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)

Whenever I hear the words shrinking movie there are always two words that come to my mind: Rick Moranis and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”! The scientist father of a teenage girl and boy accidentally shrinks his and two other neighborhood teens to the size of insects. Now the teens must fight diminutive dangers as the father searches for them. Rick Moranis stars as Wayne Szalinski, the inventor who accidentally shrinks his kids, Amy (Amy O’Neill) and Nick (Robert Oliveri). Marcia Strassman portrays his wife, Diane, to whom he delivers the titular line. Matt Frewer, Kristine Sutherland, Thomas Wilson Brown, and Jared Rushton star as Russ, Mae, Russ Jr., and Ron Thompson, respectively; the Szalinskis’ next door neighbors. Probably the most iconic role that I know of from Rick Moranis and his Shrinking Machine is probably the best one I’ll ever see in a movie. The kids try to make their way across what seems like miles of grass, ants, bees, scorpions, and a lawn mower featuring many memorable moments. And you’ll probably not find another movie where you cry for an Ant who dies in a fight with a Scorpion. If you ever want to enter a new world that is your own backyard check out this flick!
